GT Software today announced that the automobile manufacturer Heuliez France has selected the company’s Ivory Service
Architect to improve and modernize its mainframe CICS
applications. GT Software is a leading global provider of
rapid service oriented architecture (SOA) development
solutions that leverage mainframe resources.
Heuliez, which designs and manufactures niche automobiles
such as the Opel Tigra and patented retractable automobile
hard tops for many car manufacturers, will use Ivory in the
process of modernizing its mainframe applications with Web
services.
Although Heuliez has been using CICS Transaction Gateway to
Lotus Notes, the company desired to advance their
architecture to leverage a Web services model for mainframe
integration. Since Heuliez was already using another GT
Software product, Ivory VisualConnect, to convert cumbersome
3270 screens into graphically intuitive Web front-ends, “it
was natural for us to consider the additional use of Ivory
to bring our applications up to date,” said Catherine Cambot,
Heuliez development manager. JVL, GT Software’s partner in
France, suggested the additional use of Ivory to Heuliez,
and “the demonstration easily convinced us that Ivory was
the correct approach,” said Cambot.
“Success with products like Ivory is contagious,” said
Jean-Pierre Vercruysse, managing director of JVL. “Heuliez
has been an innovative company in product design and
development and Ivory has been an integral part of that
success. The progression to a Web services model requires a
robust solution like Ivory, which has been installed, and
deployment is in process.”
“Ivory Service Architect delivers immediate business value
for organizations looking to include the mainframe in their
SOA strategy,” said Wilson Rains, vice president of business
development at GT Software. “Ivory’s powerful development
environment and agile deployment solutions empower the
Heuliez team to create business services at the right level
of granularity in a matter of days. With Ivory, Heuliez is
able to speed up the iterative development process and
innovate at the speed of today’s business.”
Companies around the world use Ivory to modernize their
legacy mainframe applications while moving to new
environments such as SOA. The company’s flagship product,
Ivory Service Architect comprises Ivory Studio, a graphical
modeling environment; Ivory Server, a high-performance SOAP
processor with runtime service orchestration; and Ivory Data
Access.
